On February 24, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, Met Marc Lemaitre, Director-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission. They had in-depth exchanges of views on enhancing China-EU cooperation on science, technology and innovation.

Ambassador Fu congratulated Mr. Lemaitre for assuming the new role and conveyed the congratulatory letter from Zhang Guangjun, Vice Minister of Science and Technology of China. He noted that the development blueprint launched in the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China includes efforts to promote green development, build a digital China and boost openness and innovation. The EU also attaches great importance green and digital transition driven by science, technology and innovation. The overlapping development strategies give wide room for the two sides to deepen science and technology cooperation. Looking forward, both sides should follow through the leaders’ consensus, make the best of mechanisms such as EU-China High Level Innovation Cooperation Dialogue and accelerate discussions over an China-EU Joint Roadmap for Future Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Cooperation in a practical manner, so as to further broaden areas of cooperation and unlock the full potential.

Mr. Lemaitre congratulated Ambassador Fu for assuming the new role and explained the EU’s position on China-EU science, technology and innovation cooperation.
