On September 20, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, met with Ambassador Willem van de Voorde, Permanent Representative of Belgium to the EU. They had an in-depth exchange of views on China-EU relations, EU’s policy towards China, and other topics.

Ambassador Fu noted that Belgium is an important member of the EU, and China attaches great importance to the development of China-Belgium and China-EU relations. Since the end of 2022, high-level exchanges between China and the EU have kept positive momentum, high-level dialogues in various areas have been resumed, and the preparation of a new round of China-EU Summit is also ongoing. China always views its relations with the EU from a strategic and long-term perspective and regards the EU as a comprehensive, strategic partner. It it hoped that Belgium will play a constructive role within the EU to promote the sound and robust growth of China-EU relations.

Ambassador Willem van de Voorde said that Belgium values its relations with China and admires what China has achieved in its development. Belgium supports high-level exchanges and dialogues between the EU and China and stands ready to play a positive role in advancing the bilateral relations.
