On January 16, 2024, Ambassador Fu Cong, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, met with Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). They had friendly exchanges of views on issues of shared interest.

Ambassador Fu said that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi is currently visiting Africa and will also visit the Caribbean region, marking the 34th consecutive year that Africa has been the first destination of the annual overseas trip made by the Chinese foreign minister. As a natural member of the Global South, China shares many common ground and common interests with the vast number of developing countries in the African, Caribbean, and Pacific region, and stands ready to strengthen solidarity and cooperation to speed up shared development.

Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti said that China is an important player in the world and a crucial partner for countries in the African, Caribbean and Pacific region, having provided them with significant support and assistance in poverty reduction and development. The OACPS hopes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in the fields of climate change, economy and trade, culture, as well as science and technology, so as to achieve common development.
