Ambassador Zhang Ming Speaks at the CER/KREAB Breakfast

On 7 June, Ambassador Zhang Ming attended the breakfast co-hosted by Center for European Reform and Kreab. The event brought together more than 50 participants from the European political, business and media sectors.

Ambassador Zhang delivered a keynote speech entitled “Work Together for a Better Globalization”. In the speech, Ambassador Zhang said that economic globalization resulted from growing social productivity, and is a natural outcome of scientific and technological progress. Globalization has facilitated the movement of personnel, goods and technology. Ambassador Zhang said that China engages in, benefits from and contributes to economic globalization, and that the EU is an advocate of and contributor to globalization as well.

Ambassador Zhang said that this year marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening-up, and the 15th anniversary of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. Ambassador Zhang emphasized that under the current circumstances, it is important for China and the EU to jointly uphold the rules-based global order and unequivocally say no to unilateralism. It is imperative to jointly work for mutual benefit, further expand market access, reform the global governance system, and address climate change, cyber insecurity, among other challenges. Ambassador Zhang called on the EU to join forces with China to offer more public goods and make globalization work better.

After the speech, Ambassador Zhang answered questions on China’s reform and opening-up, BIT talks, China-US trade frictions, the international standing of the euro, internationalization of the RMB, data protection, the China-EU digital cooperation, among other topics. The event was held in a lively and warm atmosphere.
