Ambassador Zhang Ming Meets with Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis of the European Commission

On 5 September, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis of the European Commission. They exchanged views on the latter’s upcoming attendance of the 2018 Summer Davos Forum, China-EU relations, and China-EU financial cooperation, in addition to other topics of mutual interest.

Ambassador Zhang expressed welcome to Vice President Dombrovskis to attend the Summer Davos forum once again after six years. Ambassador Zhang said that the past months have seen the success and fruitful outcomes of the eighth China-EU High-level Strategic Dialogue, the seventh China-EU High-level Economic and Trade Dialogue, and the 20th China-EU Summit. It is important for the two sides to follow up on the results and take China-EU relations to a higher level. Ambassador Zhang said that Vice President Dombrovskis’ visit to China would contribute to China-EU relations, including cooperation in the financial sector.

Vice President Dombrovskis said that the EU and China, two key players in the world, have kept close cooperation in economic and financial affairs through bilateral and multilateral channels. Vice President Dombrovskis said that the visit would allow him to discuss sustainable finance, Fintech, among other topics, with Chinese counterparts, and explore possibilities of cooperation.
