On 21 October, 2021, Spokesperson of the Chinese Mission to the EU made the following remarks on the European Parliament’s adoption of the so-called “EU-Taiwan Political Relations and Cooperation” report.

Despite China’s repeated objections, the European Parliament adopted the relevant report, blatantly advocating for elevating so-called EU-Taiwan political relations, which is a serious violation of the one-China principle. We express firm opposition to this and have lodged stern representations with the EU side.

There is only one China in the world and the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. This is a universally acknowledged norm in international relations and the common consensus of the international community. It also serves as the political foundation of the establishment and development of diplomatic relations between China and the EU and its member states. Without a solid foundation, everything above will be shaky. We urge the EU side not to misjudge China’s firm resolve and strong will to defend our national sovereignty and territorial integrity, faithfully honor its commitment to the One-China principle, correct its mistakes, remove disturbances, and create conditions for the sound and steady development of China-EU relations.
