In disregard of China's strong opposition, on September 15th, President Martin Schulz of the European Parliament and Mr. Elmar Brok, Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament met with the 14th Dalai Lama who was visiting the European Parliament. This wrong action taken by the European parliament is against the EU's commitment to China on Tibet-related issues and is firmly opposed by the Chinese side.
Tibet-related issues concern China's core interests and national feelings. The Chinese Government is resolute in fighting against national separatism. We oppose any anti-China or separatist action by the Dalai clique under any identity or excuse in any country or organization, as well as any official contact in any form between any official from a country or organization and Dalai.
China-EU relations have embarked on a new phase of rapid development. Both legislatures had been maintaining good momentum of exchanges. However, by acting in disregard of our serious concerns, leaders of the European Parliament harmed China's core interests and undermined the political foundation of bilateral parliamentary exchanges. It is hoped that the EU side and relevant people will correct their wrong doing, and take effective measures to eradicate the negative impact inflicted by their mistake.
