Spokesperson of the Chinese Mission to the EU Speaks on a Question Concerning the INF Treaty

Q:It is reported that Fabio Massimo Castaldo, Vice-President of the European Parliament, said in an interview that one of the reasons for the collapse of the INF Treaty is the fact that China is not among the signatories. He believes that it is necessary to start work on a new generation arms agreement and include China among the participants. What's your comment?

A: The INF Treaty is a bilateral agreement signed between the United States and the former Soviet Union. China is opposed to the multilateralization of the INF Treaty. China firmly stands for global strategic stability and follows a defense policy that is defensive in nature. China exercises utmost restraint in developing its defense capabilities, and is not intended to and will not threaten any country.
