Spokesperson of the Chinese Mission to the EU Speaks on a Question Concerning China-related Comments at the EU-Canada Leaders' Meeting

Q: On October 29, at the press conference after the EU-Canada leaders’ meeting, the EU and Canada expressed serious concerns about "China's arbitrary detention of Canadian and other foreign citizens." What is your comment?

A: It is entirely groundless to accuse China of the so-called "arbitrarily detention" of foreign citizens. China is a country under the rule of law, resolutely cracks down on criminal activities endangering national security in accordance with law, and firmly safeguards national security interests. The Chinese judicial authorities handle the relevant cases in strict accordance with law, and the lawful rights and interests of the persons involved have been effectively protected by law. It is unacceptable for the EU and Canada to make irresponsible remarks, and interfere in China's judicial sovereignty in disregard of the rule of law.
