Spokesperson of Chinese Mission to the EU Speaks on a Question Concerning the EU Statement on the Arrest of a Chinese Employee of a Media Outlet
2020/12/13

Q: On December 12, spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS) issued a statement expressing concerns over the detention by the Chinese national security authorities of a Chinese employee who works for Bloomberg News. Can you give more information about the situation?

A: As far as I know, Fan, a Chinese citizen, is suspected of engaging in criminal activities endangering China's national security. Recently, compulsory measures were taken against her in accordance with law by the Beijing Municipal National Security Bureau. The case is currently being investigated according to law, and Fan's rights and interests are fully protected. What I want to emphasize is that the lawful handling of the relevant issues by the Chinese authorities is entirely China's internal affair, in which no other country or organization has any right to interfere.
