On March 23, 2023, Ambassador Fu Cong met with Ambassador Jalal Alashi, Head of the Libyan Mission to the EU. They exchanged views on China-Libya relations and other issues.

Ambassador Fu extended Ramadan greetings to Ambassador Alashi. He said that China and Libya share a longstanding friendship. The bilateral relationship is based on mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. China firmly supports the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Libya and calls for consensus by all parties on resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, so as to jointly promote a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process. China will continue to work together with the international community to play a constructive role in restoring peace and stability in Libya.

Ambassador Fu said that with the convening of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China last year and the new leadership elected at the just-concluded “Two Sessions,” China is advancing Chinese modernization and high-standard opening up on all fronts, bringing more stability and positive energy to world peace and development. China will continue to follow the principle of upholding world peace and promoting common development and pursue friendly and cooperative relations with Libya and all other countries in the world.

Ambassador Alashi congratulated Ambassador Fu for assuming the new role. He expressed his gratitude for China’s support to peace and stability in Libya and appreciated that China has all along held an objective and impartial position on the Libyan issue and supported the UN-led political process. Libya stands ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields and looks forward to seeing Chinese companies go back to Libya and take part in local economic development.

They also exchanged views on issues of China-EU relations and Libya-EU relations.
