Ambassador Zhang Ming Pays A Courtesy Call to Commissioner Tibor Navracsics

On 8 November 2017, Ambassador Zhang Ming, Head of the Chinese Mission to the European Union, paid a courtesy call to Mr. Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport. The two sides had exchange of views on China-EU people-to-people exchanges and other issues of mutual interest.

Ambassador Zhang briefed Commissioner Navracsics on the recent 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He said that General Secretary Xi Jinping conveyed a key message in the Congress report that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era and set out an ambitious blueprint for China's future. General Secretary Xi also outlined the goals of major-country diplomacy with distinctive Chinese features in the new era, namely to build a new type of international relations and a community with a shared future for mankind. General Secretary Xi underscored the importance of giving priority to education, developing a great socialist culture, promoting cultural programs and industries, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges with other countries. The Congress has profound impact on both China and the world and will bring new opportunities to China-EU relations.

Ambassador Zhang recognized the fruitful results of China-EU people-to-people exchanges in past years and expressed his commitment to working with the Commissioner to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two sides, expand the people-to-people and cultural cooperation, and deliver a successful Tourism Year in 2018. Ambassador Zhang warmly welcomed Commissioner Navracsics and his delegation to attend the fourth meeting of the China-EU High-level People-to-People Dialogue in Shanghai on 14 November and expressed his belief that the meeting will be successful with joint efforts of the two sides.

Commissioner Navracsics congratulated Ambassador Zhang on the success of the 19th Party Congress and said that he was impressed by the message that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. The Commissioner said that with importance placed on the relations with China, the EU will work with China to strengthen and deepen people-to-people exchanges between the two sides. The EU will actively engage with the Chinese Mission to bring people-to-people exchanges to a higher level.
