2017/12/17

On 13 December 2017, Ambassador Zhang Ming, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, paid a courtesy call to Mr. Julian King, Commissioner for Security Union of the European Commission.

Commissioner King welcomed Ambassador Zhang to Brussels. The Commissioner said that challenges like terrorism know no borders and disrupt global peace and stability, and must thus be addressed through international cooperation. Commissioner King commended China for its efforts to fight terrorism, cross-border organized crimes, and protect cyber security, and expressed his readiness to step up cooperation with China to the interest of both sides.

Ambassador Zhang briefed Commissioner King on the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, underscoring its importance to China and the world. The Congress made a crucial conclusion that socialism with Chinese features has entered a new era, and made strategic plans for China’s development in the coming 30 years. The Congress will bring immense opportunities to China, Europe and the rest of the world, as well as to China-EU relations.

Ambassador Zhang said that China attaches great importance to the EU and its relations with the EU. China and the EU have overlapping interests and huge potential for cooperation in counter-terrorism, law enforcement and cyber security. China hopes to further enhance cooperation with the EU to fight terrorism, bring law enforcement cooperation to a higher level, and step up communication on internet governance and combating cyber crimes.
