Ambassador Zhang Ming Meets with Commissioner Marianne Thyssen

On 29 January 2018, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Ms. Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labor Mobility. The two sides exchanged views on the work related to employment and social affairs in China and the EU, as well as China-EU cooperation in this field.

Ambassador Zhang briefed Commissioner Thyssen on the significance and content of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Ambassador Zhang emphasized that China will continue to deepen reform and expand opening-up, and commit to achieving modernization in an all-round way. China-EU cooperation has a solid basis with wide coverage and huge potential. In the area of employment and social affairs, China hopes to use the existing cooperation mechanisms to best effect, step up exchanges and share useful experience with the EU, in order to take the cooperation to a new level.

Commissioner Thyssen spoke highly of the important signals of the 19th Party Congress, and recognized the firm resolve and effective measures of the Chinese government to further reform and opening-up. Commissioner Thyssen said that the EU-China comprehensive strategic partnership is important, and that the EU hopes to work with China to ensure the success of the partnership in the long run. The EU also hopes to enhance cooperation with China in the area of employment and social affairs to improve people’s lives and promote social fairness.
