Ambassador Zhang Ming Meets with Head of Cabinet of First Vice President Frans Timmermans of the European Commission

On 7 February 2018, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Mr. Ben Smulders, Head of Cabinet of First Vice President Frans Timmermans of the European Commission.

Ambassador Zhang briefed Mr. Smulders on the significance and main content of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, emphasizing that the Congress will generate immense opportunities for China, Europe and China-EU relation. Ambassador Zhang said that China-EU relations are generally in good shape and mutually beneficial. China and the EU need to join forces to enlarge the pie of cooperation, add more global profile to the relations, and constantly take the comprehensive strategic partnership forward.

Mr. Smulders spoke highly of the policy direction set by the 19th Party Congress. He said that the EU and China share the same direction toward market openness and against protectionism. The two sides have very productive cooperation in environmental protection, sustainable development and counter-terrorism. The EU is committed to promoting its relations with China on a continuous and stable basis.
