Ambassador Zhang Ming Meets with Vice President Andrus Ansip of the European Commission

On 8 February 2018, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Vice President Andrus Ansip of the European Commission. The two sides exchanged views on China-EU cooperation in the digital area.

Ambassador Zhang said that digitization has an important role to play in both China’s and EU’s development. Digital cooperation is a priority for China-EU cooperation. China and the EU are well placed to draw on each other’s strengths in digital technology. More cooperation in the digital area will contribute to innovative economy of both sides and help explore the approach to global cyber governance. China will, with a more open mind, further enhance communication and cooperation with the EU at the policy, technological and practical levels, seize the opportunities in the digital age, and seek common development.

Vice President Ansip said that it is impressive that China has made great achievements and become a frontrunner in the digital area. EU-China cooperation in this area enjoys huge potential and a bright future. Such cooperation is beneficial to companies and people from both sides. The EU is committed to stepping up cooperation with China in joint research, 5G standards and cybersecurity for mutual benefit.
