Ambassador Zhang Ming Attends Photo Exhibition Commemorating The 10th Anniversary of the Massive Earthquake in Wenchuan

On 22 February 2018, a photo exhibition was held in the European Parliament in memory of the massive earthquake that hit Wenchuan County, China’s Sichuan Province ten years ago. Participants included Ambassador Zhang Ming, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, Vice Governor Yang Xingping of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, Vice President Dimitrios Papadimoulis of the European Parliament, Mr. Nirj Deva, Chair of the EU-China Friendship Group of the European Parliament, Dr. Istvan Ujhelyi, Vice Chair of the Transport and Tourism Committee of the European Parliament and President of the Europe-China “One Belt One Road” Culture and Tourism Development Committee, other representatives from the EU institutions as well as Chinese and foreign journalists.

In his speech, Ambassador Zhang expressed gratitude to the EU institutions, member states and people from all walks of life for their assistance and support for China’s post-quake relief. Ambassador Zhang said that China-EU friendship, having stood the test of the disaster, has emerged stronger, and that such friendship will enable the two sides to build consensus, enhance solidarity, and advance the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership together. Vice Governor Yang focused his speech on the great economic and social achievements that Sichuan has made in the past decade as well as the positive progress of Sichuan-Europe cooperation.

EU representatives said that the relief and reconstruction efforts made by the Chinese people are unbelievable in terms of speed and scale, which has shown the resilience and indomitable spirit of the Chinese nation. The joint relief efforts by China and Europe are another example of solidarity and cooperation between the two sides, which has drawn our people closer. The EU is committed to further enhancing government-to-government, inter-parliamentary, and people-to-people exchanges with China. This is mutually beneficial and is of great importance to global peace, stability and sustainable development.

After the speeches, Ambassador Zhang, Vice Governor Yang and EU representatives saw the photos together and talked to the guests present.
