Ambassador Zhang Ming Meets with Core Members of Delegation for Relations with the P.R. China of the European Parliament

On 20 March 2018, Ambassador Zhang Ming met with Mr. Jo Leinen, Chair of Delegation for Relations with the People’s Republic of China of the European Parliament, Mr. Reinhard Butikofer and Mr. Frank Engel, Vice Chairs of the delegation. The two sides exchanged views on China-EU relations and cooperation, inter-parliamentary exchanges, and global hotspot issues.

Ambassador Zhang briefed on the annual sessions of China’s National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, stressing their far-reaching impact on the implementation of the decisions made at the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Ambassador Zhang emphasized that China will press ahead with reform and opening-up, which will inject new impetus into China-EU relations. China and the EU are both major contributors to economic globalization and multi-polarity. China hopes to work with the European Parliament to enhance mutual understanding and reduce differences, with an aim to advance the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership and promote global development.

Mr. Leinen said that the NPC and CPPCC annual sessions have drawn wide attention, and that China’s new policies will have a great influence on the EU-China relations. The EU hopes to maintain close cooperation with China, enhance mutual understanding, step up coordination in international affairs, and jointly contribute to global peace and development. Mr. Leinen said that the European Parliament has great expectations for working with the new National People’s Congress.
