Minister-Counselor XIAN Weiyi Attended The International Conference for The Gambia

On 22 May 2018, Minister-Counselor XIAN Weiyi of the Chinese Mission to the EU attended the International Conference for The Gambia jointly organized by the EU and the government of The Gambia in Brussels. The conference was co-chaired by High Representative/Vice President Federica Mogherini, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica, and President of The Gambia Adama Barrow.

In her remarks, Minister-Counselor Xian gave an account of the practical cooperation between China and The Gambia and reiterated China’s commitment to support The Gambia in growing economy and improving livelihoods. Minister-Counselor Xian stressed that China, with great importance placed on its relations with The Gambia, will continue to harness its comparative strengths, work closely with The Gambia, and contribute to the economic development of The Gambia in the long term. Minister-Counselor Xian said that China calls upon the international community to increase input in The Gambia to jointly help it implement the National Development Plan 2018-2021.

The Conference was attended by scores of countries and international organizations, such as the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, the World Bank, IMF, the European Investment Bank, and the African Development Bank.
