Ambassador Zhang Ming: Europeans know who likes to force secret theft.
2019/05/28

On May 20, 2019, Ambassador Zhang Ming, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, gave an interview to Bloomberg in Brussels.

In response to a question about China’s National Intelligence Law, Ambassador Zhang Ming said that China leant from its global partners the experience of regulating intelligence work by law. Many media reports cited Article 7 of the law that organizations and individuals shall support, assist with, and collaborate in national intelligence work according to law. They failed to mention, however, intentionally or unintentionally, Article 8 of the same law that national intelligence work shall be conducted according to law, respect and protect human rights, and defend the legitimate rights and interests of individuals and organizations. Every law should be considered as an organic whole and it does not make sense to interpret any single article out the of context. Those who have doubts about the law should at least finish reading its full text.

Ambassador Zhang noted that China does not use or force businesses to engage in espionage or wiretapping in other countries. Europeans know who likes to do so because they are the victims of such behaviors.
