Chinese Mission to the EU Hosts a Webinar on China-EU Cooperation in Climate Change
2021/02/02

On January 28, 2021, Chinese Mission to the EU and the EURACTIV jointly held a webinar under the theme “carbon-neutrality: how can the EU and China cooperate to lead global climate change efforts”. Minister-Counselor Fei Shengchao of the Chinese Mission attended the event and discussed China-EU cooperation in climate change with representatives of the EU institutions, EU member states, and experts and scholars from China and the EU.

Minister-Counselor Fei said that China attaches great importance to addressing climate change. As President Xi Jinping pointed out, promoting green ways of development and life is a profound revolution in the outlook on development. China has made tackling climate change its fundamental state policy and adopted concrete measures to reduce carbon intensity, and promoted transformation of energy structure. China has maintained an annual economic growth rate of 7% with only 2.8% annual average growth in energy consumption. China has set an ambitious vision for carbon neutrality, and will remain as committed as ever. China and the EU need to make the best use of the newly established high-level dialogue on environment and climate, step up sharing of best practices and technologies, and jointly promote global climate change governance.

The participants welcomed China’s commitment to carbon neutrality by 2060, and spoke positively of China’s achievements in green development. They stressed that climate change is a common global challenge that no country could cope with alone. China and the EU, as major forces in the world, should join hands to advance global climate actions.
