The Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Mission to the EU Lodge Serious Representations over EU's Sanctions Against China Regarding the So-called Human Rights Issues in Xinjiang
2021/03/25

On the night of March 22, 2021, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang summoned Head of the EU Delegation to China Ambassador Nicolas Chapuis, and lodged serious representations and expressed strong condemnation on behalf of the Chinese government on the EU’s decision to impose unilateral sanctions against China regarding the so-called human rights issues in Xinjiang. Vice Minister Qin also notified Ambassador Chapuis of China’s countermeasures.

Qin Gang pointed out that the sanctions imposed by the EU side are based on lies and disinformation about Xinjiang and are inconsistent with facts, laws and common sense. The EU side is not qualified to style itself as “a human rights preacher”. China urges the EU side to recognize the severity of its mistakes, correct the mistakes and put an end to confrontation, in order to avoid further damage to China-EU ties. China has an unwavering will and resolve to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests.

On the same day, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU Ambassador Zhang Ming also lodged serious representations to EEAS Secretary-General Stefano Sannino.
