On October 14, 2020 local time, Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Vientiane.

Wang Yi conveyed cordial greetings from Premier Li Keqiang to Thongloun Sisoulith. He said that the two parties and countries stood united to fight against the COVID-19 and made joint response to the challenges brought by the pandemic, resulting in enhanced political mutual trust and a sound momentum of all-round cooperation. Laos offered strong support to China at the critical juncture of its fight against COVID-19. It reflects the relations as good friends, good neighbors and good partners, and highlights the spirit of a community with a shared future between the two countries, and China-Laos comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership operating at a high level. China is deeply appreciative of that.

Wang Yi said, China is willing to strengthen anti-epidemic cooperation with Laos, continue to offer supplies in support of its fight against the epidemic, and will provide COVID-19 vaccines, once successfully developed, to Laos as a priority recipient as per its needs, to help Laos fully defeat COVID-19 as soon as possible. Curbing the outbreak firstly in China and Laos will not only facilitate rapid economic recovery in both countries, but also create space for broadening economic and trade cooperation. Both countries should turn the crisis into opportunities, speed up the cooperation under the ambit of the Belt and Road Initiative, and make use of key cooperation projects, such as the China-Laos Economic Corridor and the China-Laos Railway, to deepen pragmatic cooperation in all fields in the post-pandemic period for mutual development.

Thongloun Sisoulith asked Wang Yi to convey his best regards and cordial greetings to Premier Li Keqiang. Thongloun Sisoulith said, Laos is heartily grateful for China's substantial assistance for its economic and social development and the fight against the epidemic. The decisive measures taken by China at the beginning of the outbreak have successfully curbed its spread, and provided valuable experience for other countries. Laos is confident in China's anti-epidemic efforts and economic development. It believes China will become a role model in the global fight against the COVID-19 and the most important driving force of global economic development in the post-pandemic period. Laos speaks highly of President Xi Jinping's important remarks at the high-level meeting to commemorate UN's 75th Anniversary. The speech keeps abreast of the tide of the times, meets the expectations of the international community, and demonstrates the charisma of the leader of a major country which is increasingly playing a leading role in international affairs. The friendship between the two countries, both as comrades and friends, is unbreakable. Laos is willing to earnestly implement the consensus between our leaders, jointly promote the Belt and Road Initiative in the spirit of a community with a shared future, and strengthen the cooperation on infrastructure, financial and economic fields, to realize the common development and prosperity of the two countries.
