On September 15 local time, Vice Premier Liu Yandong met in Brussels with European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas.

Liu Yandong noted that science, technology and innovation constitute an important field of China-EU cooperation. China is vigorously implementing an innovation-driven development strategy and takes technological innovation as the crucial support to the quality and efficiency of China's economic development by stepping up efforts to translate the fundamental research, technological innovation and scientific research achievements into concrete results on one hand and encouraging mass entrepreneurship and innovation on the other hand, which coincides with EU's strategy of Horizon 2020. She hoped that China and the EU continue to deepen cooperation in research and innovation, and implement the joint funding mechanism for China-EU research and innovation as soon as possible, so as to maximize the benefits to the researchers and industries from the two sides. Both sides should further enhance exchanges between young scientists and promote bilateral cooperation in such fields as technological research, innovation, achievements transformation as well as personnel training and communication.

Carlos Moedas stated that he paid a visit to China and attended the Summer Davos Forum in Dalian in recent days, during which China's sound implementation of the innovation-driven development strategy deeply impressed him. An important achievement during his visit was that he and the Chinese side decided to set up the joint funding mechanism for China-EU research and innovation. The EU is ready to, together with China, implement the mechanism as soon as possible to support cooperation in joint research as well as technological achievements transformation between universities, research institutions and enterprises from the two sides.
