Joint Communiqué Between the People's Republic of China and The Republic of Cameroon

I. At the invitation of President Paul Biya of the Republic of Cameroon, President Hu Jintao of the People's Republic of China paid a state visit to Cameroon from January 30th to February 1st, 2007.

II. The two leaders held talks in a cordial and friendly atmosphere on January 31st, 2007. They had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad consensus on further developing China-Cameroon friendship and cooperation, building on the success of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) as well as international issues of mutual interest. A number of agreements were signed after the meeting including those on economic and technical cooperation and debt relief.

III. The two sides noted with satisfaction the healthy and steady growth of China-Cameroon friendship and their fruitful cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations 36 years ago. Both sides agreed to further boost mutual political trust, expand bilateral cooperation in all areas and move their traditional relationship to a higher level in the spirit of sincerity, friendship, equality, mutual benefit, solidarity, cooperation and pursuit of common development.

IV. The two sides pledged to support each other on matters concerning sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Cameroonian side reaffirmed its commitment to the one China policy and its support to all the efforts by China to achieve national reunification. The Chinese side reiterated its support for Cameroon's unremitting efforts to maintain national unity and stability.

V. Both sides recognised the enormous potential in China-Cameroon economic and trade cooperation. They expressed their willingness to prioritise cooperation in agriculture, primary product processing, infrastructure, energy and telecommunication. The governments of China and Cameroon will continue to encourage the business sectors of the two countries to expand mutually beneficial cooperation and provide them with support and facilitation as necessary.

VI. The two sides agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs, uphold the shared interests of developing countries, and work together in building a harmonious world of enduring peace and common prosperity.

VII. The two sides commended China-Africa friendship and cooperation and hailed the FOCAC Beijing Summit of November 2006 as a huge success. Both sides expressed readiness to cooperate closely to fully implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit and enhance the new type of China-Africa strategic partnership featuring political equality and mutual trust, economic win-win cooperation and cultural exchange.

VIII. The Chinese side expressed its appreciation for the warm welcome and gracious hospitality accorded to President Hu Jintao during his visit to Cameroon.
