The International Community Extends Condolence to the Chinese Government on the Earthquake Disaster in Sichuan (X)

A number of foreign governments and leaders extended deep condolence on the massive earthquake hitting Wenchuan county of Sichuan province by sending telegraphs to President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao or through other ways and expressed support for the disaster relief efforts of the Chinese government and confidence that the Chinese government and people will ultimately overcome the difficulties and rebuild home.

Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of Myanmar Than Shwe, Vice-Chairman Maung Aye, Myanmar's Prime Minister Thein Sein and Foreign Minister U Nyan Win expressed deep grief over the earthquake disaster in Sichuan, deep sympathy and sincere condolence to the disaster-hit people and the families of the victims and the best wish to the disaster-hit people to resume their normal life at the earliest date possible.

President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai, on behalf of the Afghan people, extended deep sympathy and condolence to the Chinese people, grief to the families of the victims and expressed confidence that the friendly Chinese government and people will overcome the difficulties as soon as possible.

East Timor's Vice Prime Minister and Acting Foreign Minister Francisco Guterres Luolo expressed the most sincere condolence to the Chinese government and people, the deepest grief over the victims and sympathy to their families and said that East Timor will be committed to strengthening the friendly relations with China.

Irish President Mary McAleese and Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin TD extended sincere condolence to the Chinese government and the wish that China's disaster relief efforts stride forward steadily and the readiness of providing China with any necessary assistance within its own capacity.

Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nikola Spiric expressed sympathy to the families of the victims and the Chinese people and confidence that the Chinese government and courageous Chinese people will definitely overcome the difficulties and continue to enjoy peace, progress and stability.

President of Ethiopia Girma Wolde-Giorgis extended sincere condolence to the Chinese government and people, deep grief over the victims and sympathy to their families and expressed confidence that the Chinese people will ultimately defeat the disaster.

President of Niger Tandja Mamadou said that at the moment when Sichuan suffered from major earthquake disaster and the Chinese people face serious difficulties the government and people of Niger extend sincere condolence to the families of the victims and support the disaster relief efforts of the Chinese government and people.

Mauritanian President Sidi Mohamed Ould Cheikh Abdallahi extended sincere condolence to the Chinese government and people and expressed confidence that the great Chinese people will defeat the disaster with admirable courage.

Cape Verde Prime Minister José Maria Neves and Foreign Minister Borges expressed condolence to the Chinese government and people and indicated hope that under the strong leadership of the Chinese government the disaster-hit people will overcome the difficulties, rebuild their home and resume normal production and life at the earliest date possible.

Kenyan Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula extended grief and sympathy over the major injuries and loss of life caused by the earthquake and sincere condolence to the Chinese government and people. Kenya is ready to share the difficulties with China, prays for the families of the victims and wishes the injured recover as soon as possible.
