Q&A on China's environmental pollution
2015-05-05 00:52

Q: In recent years, environmental pollution such as severe smog has frequently appeared in several cities of China. How will China deal with it?

A: The Chinese government is determined to tackle smog and environmental pollution. Tremendous efforts have been made in this regard. However, much still remains to be done. Tackling environmental pollution requires a comprehensive and far-reaching solution, and the Chinese government will spare no effort to reach this goal. This year, priority will be given to the conservation of energy, reduction of emissions and improvement of the environment. Environmental laws and regulations will be strictly implemented and those responsible for illegal emissions will be held accountable.

China will strengthen the control over total energy consumption and set explicit objectives for air pollutants such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides. We will also tighten supervision over water quality, from source to tap. In addition, China will develop wind power, solar power, biomass, hydropower and other renewable energy sources and promote green lifestyles through low-carbon development.
