Li Keqiang: Promote Practical Cooperation Between China and Tajikistan and Within SCO by Fostering Partnership with Neighbors

In the morning of November 8, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with President Emomalii Rahmon of Tajikistan.

Li Keqiang said that linked by rivers and mountains, China and Tajikistan have helped each other sincerely and witnessed the bilateral relationship reaching an unprecedented level. You and President Xi Jinping held a successful meeting yesterday and witnessed the signing of multiple documents on bilateral cooperation. It is hoped that both sides could focus on cooperation in energy, transportation and agriculture, expedite the construction of the natural gas pipelines linking China and Central Asia, promote the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt and benefit the two countries and two peoples.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China has advantages in quality and cost-performance in railway construction and hoped Tajikistan can adopt Chinese standards and cooperate with China to promote construction of railway passage running towards the south, so as to push forward the economic development and improve the people's livelihood in the region.

Li Keqiang emphasized that China is ready to work with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states including Tajikistan and take the Prime Ministers' Meeting to be held next month in Astana as opportunity, to promote the SCO in further deepening cooperation in connectivity and other fields, promoting trade and investment liberalization and facilitation and working together to maintain regional security and stability and push forward development and prosperity.

Emomalii Rahmon expressed that the Tajikistan-China relations have scored substantial progress and the long-term selfless help and precious support offered by China has vigorously facilitated the economic and social development of Tajikistan. Tajikistan is willing to actively participate in building the Silk Road Economic Belt, work with China in implementing the outline of cooperation between the two countries for the next five years, promote cooperation projects in energy, transportation, agriculture and other fields, make efforts in constructing the natural gas pipelines linking Central Asia and China, and strengthen bilateral coordination within the SCO framework, so as to push the Tajikistan-China strategic partnership for new achievements.
