Li Keqiang: China Stands Ready to Be Good Neighbor, Good Friend and Good Partner of ASEAN Countries Forever

In the afternoon of November 8, 2014, Premier Li Keqiang met with President U Thein Sein of Myanmar at the Great Hall of the People.

Li Keqiang said that I will pay at invitation an official visit to Myanmar in a few more days. I am looking forward to, through this visit, further enhancing political mutual trust, pooling the political consensus on developing good-neighborly friendship between China and Myanmar, advancing the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor and cooperation in major projects related to connectivity and strengthening people-to-people and cultural and non-governmental exchanges between the two countries, so as to push the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership to a new level and benefit the two peoples.

Li Keqiang said that Myanmar will soon host a series of leadership meetings concerning the cooperation in East Asia as the rotating presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The Chinese side always supports the process of the ASEAN integration. China is willing to be good neighbor, good friend and good partner of ASEAN countries forever, actively advance the discussing and signing of the "Treaty of Good Neighborly and Friendly Cooperation between China and ASEAN Countries", and accelerate the construction of an upgraded version of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. I hope that all participants will start from the overall situation of regional peace and stability, highlight the consensus, and focus on cooperation so as to make new contributions to promoting development and prosperity in this region and advancing the process of the cooperation in East Asia.

U Thein Sein said that China has made great achievements in its development which has vigorously driven the development of Myanmar and other neighboring countries. The government and people of Myanmar are eagerly looking forward to Premier Li Keqiang's attendance of the series of leadership meetings concerning the cooperation in East Asia and his visit to Myanmar, which will push the Myanmar-China and ASEAN-China relations to a new level. The construction of "One Belt One Road" will benefit ASEAN countries, and Myanmar will actively participate in the construction. Myanmar stands ready to join hands with China to push ahead with oil and gas pipelines and other cooperation projects between Myanmar and China and well safeguard the rights and interests of investors from China and other countries.
