Zhang Dejiang Meets with Mongolian President and Canadian Prime Minister Respectively

On November 9, 2014, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met respectively with President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj of Mongolia and Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada at the Great Hall of the People.

During his meeting with Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, Zhang Dejiang said that the China-Mongolia relations have achieved substantial progress since the establishment of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries 65 years ago. During President Xi Jinping's visit to Mongolia this August, he and Your Excellency Mr. President agreed to upgrade the China-Mongolia relations to comprehensive strategic partnership, marking that the bilateral relations entered a new historic development era. China and Mongolia should further deepen mutual understanding and trust in politics, treat each other sincerely, respect each other, and cement the foundation of the bilateral relations. Both sides should also further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in economy, give the advantages of both sides into full play, expand the cooperation platforms, and achieve common development. The NPC of China is willing to, together with the State Great Hural of Mongolia, enhance exchanges and cooperation, consolidate the foundation of public opinion, and promote the bilateral relations for development.

Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj expressed that Mongolia cherishes the Mongolia-China comprehensive strategic partnership and is willing to strengthen the exchanges between the State Great Hural of Mongolia and the NPC of China, so as to push forward the equal and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

During his meeting with Stephen Harper, Zhang Dejiang expressed that Canada is one of the earliest western countries that established diplomatic relationship with the People's Republic of China, and the bilateral relations enjoy sound foundation. In recent years, China-Canada relations have maintained a positive development momentum, which conforms to the common interests of the two countries and two peoples. During Mr. Prime Minister's visit this time, you and President Xi Jinping reached broad consensus on deepening bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other fields and scored new results, which will surely exert a positive influence on the development of the China-Canada strategic partnership. The NPC of China stands ready to enhance friendly exchanges with the Parliament of Canada, give the mechanisms of regular exchanges into play, and create a legal and social environment for practical cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to better serve the overall situation of the bilateral relations.

Stephen Harper expressed that Canada attaches great importance to Canada-China strategic partnership and stands ready to intensify the exchanges between the Parliament of Canada and the NPC of China, promoting all-round cooperation between the two countries together.
