Xi Jinping Meets with President Joko Widodo of Indonesia

On November 9, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with President Joko Widodo of Indonesia at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Indonesia are both major developing countries and major countries in the region, sharing common interests in major international and regional issues and shouldering shared responsibility. We should view bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, show mutual understanding and mutual support, deepen mutual trust, strengthen cooperation, join hands to tackle challenges and push forward development together.

Xi Jinping pointed out that President Joko Widodo's proposal to build maritime power and my initiative of building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road conform to each other to a high extent. We can dock development strategy, promote cooperation in infrastructure construction, agriculture, finance, nuclear energy and other fields and give full play to the mechanism of maritime and aerospace cooperation so as to promote the bilateral cooperation to extend to both the sky and the ocean. The Chinese side attaches importance to enhancing bilateral defense and security cooperation and supports the expansion of bilateral people-to-people and cultural exchanges and regional cooperation.

Joko expressed that Indonesia and China enjoy time-honored exchange history and abundant cooperation resources. The Indonesian side hopes to push forward bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperation and constantly upgrade bilateral relations. Both sides should prioritize maritime, infrastructure construction and other fields to drive the overall cooperation between the two countries. Indonesia supports the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and hopes to join it at an early date. The Indonesian side hopes to set up a China cultural center in Indonesia at an early date.

Xi Jinping stressed that China attaches importance to the role played by Indonesia in the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) as its largest member, and stands ready to work with Indonesia to jointly push forward the development of China-ASEAN relations, accelerate regional integration process, and promote regional peace, stability and prosperity. Both sides should also strengthen cooperation in international multilateral organizations and communication and coordination on major global issues so as to jointly safeguard the interests of vast developing countries.

Joko expressed that the Indonesian side stands ready to strengthen cooperation with China in order to make positive contribution to promoting security and stability of the region and the world.
