Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha of Thailand

On November 9, 2014, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha of Thailand at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Thailand are as close as one family. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and the new government of Thailand, the country maintains social stability and various reforms are advancing as scheduled. China sincerely hopes that Thailand will realize long-term peace and security and that Thai people will live and work in contentment. China is willing to make joint efforts with Thailand to constantly enrich the connotation of China-Thailand comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation. Both sides have reached consensus on cooperation in railway, water conservancy, energy, education and other fields, which they hope can be implemented continuously. China encourages Chinese enterprises to invest in Thailand. As next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Thailand, both sides should enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges and pass down bilateral friendship from generation to generation. China appreciates the positive role that Thailand, as a the country coordinator for relations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), has played in furthering China-ASEAN cooperation. China stands ready to promote peace, prosperity and harmony in Asia with Thailand.

Prayuth Chan-ocha expressed that as Thailand is exploring a development path suitable to its national conditions, it hopes to carry out exchanges and mutual learning and deepen cooperation with China, especially to facilitate cooperation in agriculture and railway and promote regional connectivity by building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. Thailand expects to expand the export of Thai agricultural products to China, enhance nongovernmental exchanges and strengthen talent training. Thailand has actively participated in the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and appreciates China’s setting up the Silk Road Fund. Thailand will continue to dedicate to facilitating the cooperation between the ASEAN and China and supports China in successfully hosting the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Informal Leaders’ Meeting.
